>>While Harvard University maintained its spot as the best university in the world, the University of Ibadan (UI) remained the best in Nigeria for year 2016 – holding the torch from 2015. According to the survey by Times Higher Education (THE) , Asian universities are becoming more prestigious, increasing from 10 to 18 universities in the Top 100. In Africa, Cape Town University in South Africa remained the best university, while University of Ghana, Legon, was named the best in west Africa. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Stanford University, Cambridge, and Oxford University followed Harvard closely at the second, third, fourth and fifth position respectively. No African university made into the 2016 Top 100, with Cape Town University coming in at 120. University of Ibadan, Nigeria’s premiere University, with 26,247 students and a student-to-staff ratio of 17.1, came in between 601-801, as no specific position was given. No other Nigeria university made it into the top 800 universities in the world. Over the past five years, countries other than the US and UK have struggled to make it to the Top 10 with little success. The University of Tokyo in Japan is the only institution outside the US and UK to have come into the Ivy-10 league, hitting eighth in 2011 and 2012, and 9th in 2013. In 2016, Tokyo ranked best in Asia and 12th in the world. The US remains dominant in the Top 100 with the first three Universities and 40 others in the highly sought top 100 universities.
