Or where was JAMB when UNILORIN conducted post UTME last year and 30,000 out of over 60000 that applied had 50% and above but UNILORIN still picked many of those who had below 50%, because they are well connected, indigenes and are also Muslim whereas many who had over 60% didn't get admission, Then should it be said that JAMB is complacent ? because there is virtually nothing our dear JAMB is regularizing, and this Regularization of a thing is nothing but another way to siphon money from parents and the masses, because that is all what jamb is all about, a way to siphon money from the masses and whereas before they start regularizing polytechnic students, they should regularize their Registrar Prof Dibu Ojerinde because JAMB is a National Cake not a personal cake, it's been over 8 year's sir, it's time to leave. FG Denies Scrapping NYSC Scheme

UNILORIN VC Calls On FG To Establish More Specialized Universities

JAMB Announce 2016/2017 Admission Deadline for All Schools

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), after the Combined Policy Meeting with stakeholders which took place yesterday, announced that the deadline for 2016/2017 admission exercise will be on Wednesday, 30th November, 2016.

The JAMB Registrar, Prof. Dibu Ojerinde, who made the announcement, said that it was imperative for all vice-chancellors, rectors and provosts to abide by the agreement and ensure its implementation.

The general admission cut-off mark was approved at the meeting.

Despite the announcement by the JAMB Registrar and the comments by the Minister of Education concerning the scrapping of post-UTME, prospective candidates are to note that several tertiary institutions have already announced the sale of Post-UTME application forms and details of their screening dates.

How Nigeria university,poly and college may admit students after the scraping of Post utme exam

>>Following some of the decisions taken at the 2016 JAMB Combined Policy meeting which include the official announcement of the 2016 cut-off mark as 180 for Universities, Polytechnic and Colleges of education and the scrapping of Post- UTME, many candidates are asking a lot of questions with regard to how the admission process for this year is going to run. Having examined the situation, we would like to point out some factors that may likely come in to play in 2016 admission process. First, one thing that will likely be a fall-out of this new development is the fact that the cut off-mark of top institutions like UNIBEN, UNILORIN, OAU, UI, UNILAG may shoot up to 220, 240 or even 250. However, no institution will go below 180. The responsibility of placing candidates in schools will now reside with JAMB. However, JAMB has to first confirm the requirements of institutions before placing candidates in such institution. For instance, if UNIBEN decides that their cut-off mark for this year is 250, it is only candidates who applied to study in that school and score up to 250 will secure admission in UNIBEN. Similarly, since the bench cut-off mark is 180, JAMB may decide to re-distribute candidates who scored up to 180 to other institutions (who knows, it could be a university, polytechnic or College of education since they all have the same cut-off mark) if the institution they originally chose have reached its admission quota or if such candidates UTME score falls below the set cut-off mark of their specific institutions. The scrapping of Post-UTME does not necessarily mean that institutions cannot conduct other forms of screening, it only means they cannot conduct another form of examination similar to UTME. So schools may decide to use oral interview or verification of documents to screen candidates. The scrapping of post-UTME will equally save candidates the cost of purchasing their school's post-UTME form and going through the usual hassles associated with it. However, all these factors will be expected to play out when ASUU, ASUP and NCEE accept the outcome of the 2016 JAMB Combines Policy meeting. Since these bodies are yet to express their stance on this, we will only wait to see how it plays out at the end of it all. Explaining the effort of the institution on ICT, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. F.F.O. Orumwense said ‘’The software for CBT was indigenously developed by the University of Benin ICT Unit, making the university the first University in Nigeria to develop and use it to conduct the examinations.’’ According to him, The enhancement of the ICT Unit has also been extended to various units and departments of the university with the provision of the E-learning multimedia teaching programs which will aid the advancement of teaching and learning process. He said that the innovation has further prompted the university to approve the establishment of a paperless senate meeting and result presentation powered by online application using Intranet connectivity. Orumwense disclosed that the administration of the university has linked all faculties, units/hostels with fibre optics for the enhancement of internet connectivity 24/7, adding, ‘’the unit is also equipped with a video conferencing room with latest infrastructure that can conveniently seat 20 people.’’ The major administrative sectors, he explained has been approved by Management for computerization of the Registry and Bursary Department for seamless operations as well as to enhance the service delivery and the growth of the university. Meanwhile, he said that in compliance with the spirit of computer based entrance examinations being advocated by JAMB, UNIBEN has effectively keyed into the initiative as its Post-UTME and PUDE examinations are now full computer based. The computer based test software, he added has been used to conduct the 2015/2016 Jamb examination which received commendations from staff as well as relevant stakeholders and observers. ‘’The ICT Unit has helped to conduct examinations in other institutions within Nigeria. University of Ibadan: Experts Proffer Solution To Current Tomato Disease

>>Agricultural experts at the University of Ibadan (UI) has proffered solutions to the outbreak of Tomato disease, identified as Tuta Absoluta, in Nigeria. A geneticist at the university, Dr. Morufat Balogun, said that importing seeds to cushion the problem is not the best option as it would further drain the nation's foreign exchange. She said the Federal Government should direct plant breeders / entomologists to develop new tomato varieties that could adapt to the Nigerian environment. “Tomato is a short duration crop that breeds fast; when an insect smells something in the plant that puts it away, it can’t feed on it. “If the gene from such hormones is put in tomato, the pest will not feed on it. That will be a lasting solution. “A cushioning solution will be when farmers grow their tomato in an insect screen environment, the insects can’t attack it. “Tomato can be produced anytime of the year. So, government should build screen houses for farmers,” Balogun said. Another expert, Dr Biodun Claudius-Cole, a Plant Pathologist at the university, said management of the disease should be done using combination of biosecticide method, resistant crops, among others. “Farmers need to practice good agricultural methods; they must have good land preparation as that manages soil burn, which is one of the problems of tomato. “They should also be encouraged with inputs and facilities that will help them produce tomato all year round.” She said the government should ensure that crops like tomatoes coming to Nigeria were quarantined before allowed into the country. Claudius-Cole said the government should also put necessary measures to control the disease in affected states to stop it from spreading to other places. An entomologist from the same University, Dr. Olajumoke Alabi, said farmers should use insecticide in a systemic way, if they should use it at all. “We can use bio-control agents like nematode, augmentation to suppress the pest population, we can also use cultural control, whereby farmers uproot and destroy infected crops.” (NAN)

How to make students pass UTME — Educationist

The major reason accounting for the failure of candidates in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is the inability of many schools to make e-learning a priority, thus making it extremely difficult for candidates to manipulate computer in the exam hall. This revelation came from the Chief Learning Officer of Mandate Private Schools, Akesan, Igando, Lagos, Rev. Sunday Attah. This, according to him, arose from the failure of many schools to anticipate the introduction of computer- based exam in the country. His words: “The reason our students pass UTME excellently well every year is because we were able, far back as 2008, to predict the introduction of computer-based examination in Nigeria and we immediately made e-learning from primary school to SS3 a top priority. At a forum in South Africa in 2008 which I attended and was organized by the Nigeria based Accelerated Learning Group, we did a 5- year projection on educational development where we predicted the adoption of computer-based examination in Nigeria given our assessment of the situation in other parts of the world. There and then I decided to introduce computer–based examination in my school which I implemented on returning to Nigeria from South Africa .Thus, students of Mandate Private Schools were already doing computer-based examination even before JAMB introduced it. The first step we took was to transform our SS1-SS3 classes to e- learning classrooms. Each of the students has laptop and teachers’ notes are transferred to students’ laptops through wireless devices. We have given ourselves a time frame to introduce the intensive ICT education to our primary section, which will make pupils/students from Primary 1 to SS3 computer literate and internet friendly. These pupils and students are taught by competent computer teachers in the use of word processing, multimedia, internet, e-mail, desktop publishing, networking and computer aided designs. Their familiarity with computer gives them emotional and psychological stability in the JAMB-conducted computer- examination. This accounts for the high figure of about 95% of our students who gain admissions to various universities every year. I must quickly add that the reason for the failure of many students across the country in the examination is their lack of exposure to computer from their secondary schools. Expectedly, such students will lose self-confidence in the examination hall. Any student who is jittery in the examination hall as a result of his or her inability to operate computer will fail woefully.’’ This claim of overwhelming success in the UTME, says the school proprietor, is underscored by the large number of the school’s former students who have graduated as well as those who are presently studying in different universities around the world. The list of these undergraduate students, according to him, include Aminat Abolade who is studying Medicine at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife; Bola Owate also studying Medicine in the University of Lagos; Favour Attah is reading Management Information System at Covenant University, Ota, Ogun state, and Ashifor Oghene who is studying International Relations and Diplomacy at the University of Benin.
